2) What is PAT testing?

PAT testing or portable appliance testing is the inspection for electrical appliances, gadgets or equipment on site. Our job is to make sure the appliances are safe to use and free of any electrical faults which could potentially lead to an electrical fire or electrocution.

PAT testing includes both visual inspections and further manual testing with the use of electrical testing tools. The manual testing can only be carried out by a certified electrician.

There are a number of steps we follow as experienced electricians:

  • Plug - We look for any obvious signs of damage, cracks or scorch marks. The outer cover is removed so that we can take a better look at the internal fuse and wiring.
  • Cabling - Our team inspect the outer rubber insulation for signs of wear and tear or damage and for any exposed wiring.
  • Appliance/equipment - Identify any visible signs of damage in the form of cracks or burns.

Manual testing will include checking for the correct fusing, that the electrical appliance is ideal for the working conditions and that the correct polarity of supply cables is used.

3) What are the benefits of PAT testing?

Some forms of electrical testing are legal obligations which must be withheld by the commercial or industrial owner, such as an EICR for example. PAT testing is not a legal requirement, However, guidance form The Electricity at Work Regulation 1989 does state that electrical equipment is safe and well maintained, hence why we strongly suggest you do conduct PAT testing in Nottingham.

As the team from Stator Electrical Solutions have conducted a number of PAT testing in and around Nottingham, PAT testing does form part of a businesses health and safety policy. This demonstrates compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974.

Regular PAT testing in Nottingham will ensure all occupants on site are kept safe as well as protecting the premises from damage through electrical fires.
