Electrical Compliance - A Guide For East Midlands Businesses

Most industries have an obligation to ensure that their electrics are safe and legal, and therefore, that they comply with relevant government legislation. Stator Electrical Solutions is a Commercial Electrician specialist helping commercial organisations throughout Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and the wider East Midlands to comply with and exceed all electrical compliance obligations.

The majority of East Midlands commercial properties, including workplaces, are required to undertake an EICR report, short for Electrical Installation Condition Report. These need to be undertaken every 5 years for commercial properties (including commercial landlords), every 3 years for industrial premises with others like swimming pools requiring annual inspection.

EICR reports must be undertaken by a qualified NICEIC-registered organisation and the commercial property’s electrical wiring is inspected and graded as follows: C1 electrics are deemed to present danger, and must be remedied ASAP; C2-graded electrics are deemed to present a potential danger; and electrics graded as C3 pose no danger, yet there may be recommendations attached for improvements at they no longer meet current recommended guidelines.

An EICR report will not take a qualified electrician engineer too long. It includes a full fixed-wire testing report and you’ll be provided with an EICR Certificate in no time, bringing your organisation up to speed with legislative requirements, satisfying clients, visitors, tenants and of course, your insurance requirements and the law.

Another key aspect of electrical compliance for commercial clients is testing and ensuring the safety of all portable electrical items throughout your properties. Items from printers to monitors, hard drives to hairdryers: all items must be deemed safe and compliant. Stator Electrical is proud to be one of the few commercial electrical organisations that also provide PAT testing for larger three-phase commercial electrical items, so no matter how large your machinery is, Stator Electrical can PAT test all of your items in one visit. Bearing in mind that PAT testing must be completed every year and EICR checks every 1-5 years, don’t wait for your electrical compliance to become out of date, as, not only is the safety and productivity of your business at stake but there are also heavy fines for organisations identified as non-compliant.

As mentioned, Stator Electrical is an NICEIC-accredited electrical contractor. We’re also Part P Electrical Safety Scheme-registered, SSIP-registered and part of the government’s TrustMark scheme. Consider too that all of our engineers receive regular training and criminal checks and you’ll find that bringing your organisation up to speed with electrical compliance could not be easier or safer.
