Commercial Electrical Certificate (EICR) in Derby

All businesses need to ensure that their safety obligations are met in order to keep their customers and employees safe and to comply with health and safety guidelines.

Where electrical systems are concerned, it is best to have regular electrical inspections carried out on your business premises to minimise breakdowns. Breakdowns on electrical systems can effectively close the business and prevent its ability to operate. One way of complying with health and safety requirements AND minimising revenue loss is to have regular electrical checks carried out.

Electrical inspections can be carried out regularly and the Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) that is produced can show that you have fulfilled your electrical safety requirements.

What is involved in an EICR

An electrical inspector attends the premises to carry out visual checks of the wiring, containment systems and electrical accessories. They will carry out a variety of electrical tests to ensure that earthing is adequate, the wiring is safe and that the various electrical circuits are not being overloaded or damaged.

The extent of the electrical testing that can be carried out will be limited in business premises that cannot be fully shutdown but we will discuss any limitations to testing with you prior to the works. These limitations will be noted on the electrical report.

Once the report is produced it will detail the type of testing that has been carried out, the nature of the electrical earthing and mains supplies along with the test results and observations from the inspector.

What are the outcomes from an inspection?

There are two possible outcomes for an electrical installation following an electrical inspection. The EICR can either be ‘SATISFACTORY’ or ‘UNSATISFACTORY’.

Any immediate or potential dangers can mean that the electrical system is unsatisfactory and requires remedial works to make safe again. There can be recommendations present on an EICR and the outcome can still be satisfactory.

Whilst recommendations do not constitute a danger, without taking action these can lead to issues in the future so it is wise to act on all observations noted in an EICR regardless of how minor some may seem.
